That's how then in campus we had this sister's meeting kind of where we talked about relationships and marriages. Hmmm, na so Dem ask me about my opinion on relationship, should a Christian sister be dating? Are we supposed to supposed to be called boyfriend and girlfriend?
Me I said yes oo ๐, you should date when it's right and you're ready and it should be called boyfriend and girlfriend. I know say some holy sisters saw me as a carnal sister that day ๐.
This whole "dating" thing as carnal or calling your partner your boyfriend or girlfriend still stresses me out. Because i'm lost are you guys not together which one is we are not dating we are courting no be relationship las las.
As una never marry na boyfriend and girlfriend you be abeg no stress person๐๐
I've been thinking about it recently. I'm all for serious courtship fr because what else are we supposed to be doing? But then again... I really like the boyfriend/girlfriend thingy.
I laughed and I am commenting because this matter concerns me. I still find it awkward to be in that sort of relationship in the first place. To me, it seems like a joke, something heading nowhere....
When my partner comes it would be 'fiancรฉ and fiancรฉe', the boyfriend and girlfriend will be in the 'friend' stage and I can skip that title.
Meet my boyfriend/girlfriend... Arrgggg....So cringeee. ๐ฌ
Ohhh I get your point. Your know that phase before he proposes and you people are talking a lot, getting to know each other and all of the going out and calls and all, that is the relationship phase. If he now asks you to be his wife, thatโs when you people become engaged and you can now adopt the title, fiancรฉ or fiancรฉe.
Anything before that, itโs boyfriend and girlfriend.

โI understand the use of words changes over time, but no matter how we want to see it, referring to your unmarried significant other as boyfriend or girlfriend will always somewhat imply something sexual. Maybe I am conservative in my views, but I think it is safest to refer to the person you plan to marry as fiancรฉ or fiancรฉe. It sounds casual, superficial, and again sexual to refer to one another as girlfriend or boyfriend. If you are not planning to marry, stay away from romance until you are ready. It is the safest way to live the single life.โ
I understand this perspective, and I appreciate you sharing it! But Iโd push back a little. Fiancรฉ and fiancรฉe are still two romantically involved unmarried people. The label changed but the relationship didnโt.
Two serious people who want to get married can be in a relationship and the title boyfriend and girlfriend can still come to play.
Hereโs the thing. I have never seen the words boyfriend or girlfriend as sexual. There is nothing inherently sexual about them. People did that. People loaded the words with fear and scandal and then ran from words they themselves corrupted. The word was never the problem. It has never been. It was always peopleโs conception - what they feel, how they see it, what it looks like and what it sounds like.
And if weโre being honest, the sexual scandal being feared about boyfriend and girlfriend can happen just as easily with fiancรฉ and fiancรฉe. Serious, ready, and in love and theyโre still not married yet. Even marriage itself doesnโt guarantee anything. So if the fear is about what people do, the title was never the solution.
This essay was never about telling people to go out and have boyfriends or girlfriends just because they can. It was about owning up to whatever serious thing two people have going on, without trying to paint it as something it isnโt. Call it what it is. Thatโs all. ๐

Hi beautiful
I get your point here, but shouldn't he be a fiancee after he had proposed or engaged you?
